Volunteer
Girls Hope sees each child as a unique person; an individual with dignity who has basic needs and rights. While it is the primary responsibility of administration and residential staff to forge genuine, healthy relationships with each child, community volunteers share a wealth of gifts with each child and increase the effectiveness of our program.
Your role as a volunteer with Girls Hope falls under one or more of the following categories:
Office Volunteer: helps out in the Administrative Office with tasks such as data entry, filing, answering phones. This is someone who has limited and supervised contact with the scholars.
Program Volunteer: acts as a facilitator for an in-house activity, or as a provider of such essential services as home repair and grounds maintenance. This person may have regular contact with the scholars, but is always supervised by either Administrative or Residential staff.
Youth Volunteer: is directly involved with the scholars, as a “dinner parent” (preparing meals), tutor, chaperone for field trips, or supporting the scholar in various academic, cultural, social or athletic enrichment activities. Whether one-on-one or in a group, Youth Volunteers have extensive opportunities to connect with the scholars.
Mentor: is most directly involved with the scholars, serving as a positive role-model and nurturing guide for four hours per month for at least twelve months. The Mentor has the most opportunity to develop a healthy bond with a scholar, thus, requires the highest level of commitment and training.
